Identifying strategies for recruiting and retaining human resources in Iranian sports startups

Abstract

The aim of the current research was to identify the strategies of recruiting and retaining human resources in Iranian sports startups. This research was of applied, qualitative and thematic analysis type. The research participants were university professors of sports management, human resources management, and managers of sports start-ups, 16 of whom were selected purposefully and considering theoretical saturation. Data analysis has been done using thematic analysis steps. The coding results were obtained in 90 basic themes, 5 organizing themes and 2 comprehensive themes and showed that Data analysis was done using thematic analysis steps. The results showed that human resource recruiting strategies in sports startups include internal strategies (training and promotion, transfer, job announcement technique, job volunteer technique and referring to previous employees) and external strategies (social networks, internet sites, unsolicited applicants, recruitment agencies, mass media, educational institutions, recommendation and introduction, governmental organizations and non-governmental organizations and unions and labor and professional organizations) and retaining strategies including financial strategies (creating financial dependence, increasing salaries and wages, promoting welfare and facility services and giving shares), educational strategies (creating a learning and creative environment, developing and fostering skills and succession) and justice-oriented strategies (clear distinction between gifted and ordinary manpower, creating a sense of fairness and justice and creating equal opportunities for growth). Therefore, in the recruiting of human resources in sports startups, it is possible to use the human resources of both internal and external departments of the organization, and in their retaining, financial, educational and justice-oriented methods can be used.
